This is the title of the new best selling children's book by Drew... haha, we wish!! It is the title of the state silver medal winning book that Drew wrote for a school contest! The story is of a superhero guinea pig (no surprise, named Peanutbutter) that saves the world from an evil hamster who is stealing carrots and turning them into an evil carrot army. Oh, how that little brain works. She also did some fabulous illustrations using pictures she found on the Internet along with her own drawings.

Now, we've got to figure out how all this creativity and talent can make momma & daddy some $$$!

We finally have had a day or two without rain (or snow) and were able to do some landscaping around the house. Also, we've got some grass growing... Chris and Pop spent a long afternoon raking and seeding that has really paid off with a lot of green.

We've constructed a dry creek bed in the drainage swell (of course, this is where the grass seems to grow the best... where we don't want it)
We still have a lot of work to do, but what a difference already!! Now for the back yard...

Drew Shows Off Her Creative Side

Drew's sculputure was chosen to represent her school in an art show downtown. The show was a collection of artwork from students all over the county school system. We attended a reception on the artists' honor and she got to show off her stuff... we are so proud of her creativity and hard work!

Oh Heaven, Reesey Turned 7

Our baby is not a baby anymore! 7 years ago we welcomed our little Reesey Cup into the world.... and we had no idea what we were getting into! She adds so much excitement to our lives! She is sweet and cuddly, stubborn and conniving, smart and tender-hearted, tough and hard-headed... all wrapped up in the cutest little package w/ curly hair and a few missing teeth that you've ever seen! We love you, Reese!

We had a great little cook out on Reese's Birthday and were able to share it w/ some friends and Jed & Delia!

Then, we invited some of Reese's friends from school to a party @ Build-a-Bear Workshop at the mall. As you can see from the pics, Reese and her friends (& Drew) had a great time... we were also glad Nana, Pop, and Aunt Tara could join in the fun!

Playin' Hooky

So about 7 o'clock on a Tuesday, we decided to drive up to North Carolina and ski the next day. Chris worked it out with work and the girls played "hooky" from school. Isn't that a great lesson to teach them, they can miss school for a good reason like... going skiing. Anyway, we loaded up the car, after an ordeal getting all of our ski stuff, and headed to the snowy mountains Above: the first lift ride of the day
Below: the second lift ride of the day... I started taking the frostbite warning seriously

And, don't let the beautiful sunshine fool you... it was about 9 degrees up top. It did warm up to a balmy 17 or so by the end of the day! You know on the movie "Dumb & Dumber", when they ride the little motorbike through the cold weather and icicles start to form? Yeah, something like that...
It was actually much warmer toward the bottom of the mountain where the girls spent most of their day. They rode the magic carpet on the bunny slope a couple of times, and spent the rest of the day on the green slopes with thier instructor. By the time we picked them up, they were hitting jumps, skiing off through the trees, and flying down the hill! We are going to have a hard time keeping up with them pretty soon!

In the middle of all the chaos of moving... we were able to sqeeze in a little Christmas!!

This is on our Christmas Card that everyone should expect in their mailboxes mid to late January... our new fireplace

Here the girls are getting ready for Santa... he came a few days early to our house, we guessed it was because of the new address.

Santa brought all kinds of goodies including a wii and wii fit!

The Griswold Reese Family Christmas

The whole clan got together in North Carolina... we enjoyed some food and fellowship and celebrated Avery and Joyce's 40th wedding anniversary!

The Youngin's... these are all of the great-grandkids... well, not all... not even close, but a good looking bunch!

Getting Older (some of YOU are older than others)... 15 of the 19 grandkids

Really Old... haha... the brothers with their lovely wives (sadly, missing a couple of folks in this one)

Grandma was feeling the Christmas spirit, she was as happy as Dad has seen her in a long time!!

We have been painting up a storm... prime the whole house, then everything needs at least 2 coats of color. So, needless to say, a long few days.

Pop was jealous of us doing all this work by ourselves, so he came to join the fun

and here is Paige in her construction worker uniform... this includes 12 layers of clothing (b/c the temps have been bitter cold), a hat (b/c a little too much of the paint was ending up in the hair), an energy drink, and some cool accessory like a paint roller or rubber mallet

Notice there are no pics of the girls or Nana... well, thanks to Nana- the girls had a super weekend away from the constuction zone, we all ate very well, and ~~some~~ a lot of much needed laundry got done!!

Not that you can tell much from the pictures, but we have the sheet-rock almost finished. The final sanding and ceiling treatment should be done by Wed... so, here comes the hard work for us. Painting and flooring, which we are planning on doing ourselves. Come on, how hard can it be... kidding!

What a difference a day makes... we now have a semi-wooded lot. We are happy with the way everything has turned out though, ol' Rog (the dozer guy) did a great job... working around some big pretty trees to (hopefully) save them. Now Daddy has some long days ahead of him... w/ some much appreciated help from Pop, it is going to be a true "Labor" Day weekend!!

If you don't know, we are getting ready to build a house... here is our beautiful lot. Take a good look b/c by the end of the week, it will all change. Many, Many Many trees have to be cut in order for us to get a house on there. It will be a sad day for us, there may even be tears, but it has to be done and it will (hopefully) still be a very pretty setting. There will still be a ton of trees remaining.

For Drew's Birthday, she decided that she wanted to have a sleepover... I was not paying attention to what she said and agreed to do it.
It was the very last day of school and Drew called it her "End-of-the-Year/Birthday Party". We invited a few (by that I mean way too many) girls to come spend the night...

There was pizza...

There was a campfire and roasted marshmallows...

We had cake and ice cream sundaes, Drew opened presents....

There was a movie before bed...

Then there was breakfast...

There was not, however, enough medication in this world to get Mom through another night of that!!!!
Just kidding... we had a great time and other that needing a nap... Mom made it OK!

The One About the Father/Daughter Dance...

Daddy got to take his littlest to the Father/Daughter Dance at school. Daddy brought the girls flowers... he his so thoughtfull and knows just what the girls love! They got dressed up and danced the night away... thankfully there was very little of Daddy dancing and mostly Kindergarten girls doing a conga line around the gym. Don't they look so pretty slash handsome.

Oh, The Places She Goes...

The Kindergarten @ the girls school did a program that revolved around the Dr Suess Book "Oh, The Places You'll Go." She was a butterly during the song "I Believe I can Fly" and she rocked!!! (Njoy the picture) It was a major production and all of the Kindergarten teachers even did the "Thriller Dance" (it was killer).

Also, Drew's Girl Scout Troop did the flag ceremony and she called out all of the commands in front of about 400 parents, teachers, and principles. We were SO proud (sorry no pics of that, but you can just imagine how cute she was)!

The Ski Trip cont...

Oh what a trip it was... by the second day the girls were going on any green slope easily. Drew is trying to jump every little bump or pile of snow she crosses... she is doing awesome and loving it!! The girls ride the lift by themselves (Mom's & Nana's heart stops a little) on the green slopes. Reese is doing great... but, its hard on those little legs!

The pic below is at the top of "Big Red" @ Sugar. This is a big blue slope and the girls went down it fine... it is a long run for little ones though, they were ready for some hot chocolate @ the bottom!!

The First Day of Ski School

The family headed up to Sugar Mt, in North Carolina for a long weekend. Nana, Pop, and Tara came along. The girls started out in ski school... very interesting. If you had seen them the first morning you would have thought we totally wasted our money.

Reese's group... WELL...

~Ski rentals= $22

~Lift ticket and ski school= $74

~A class of 6 yr olds with skis, heavy coats, gloves,and hats falling down like dominoes and watching the ski instructor attempt to untangle them and keep them standing up right= PRICELESS

Drew says "I got this"! What a difference a year or two makes!!

BUT, by the end of the day, they were rockin'- we even heard about some trash talking with some boys that kept falling down (that's my girls)!

...wheels. She took off like she'd been riding forever! Whipping around the field, taking bumps, starting and stopping at will, and controlling her speed perfectly! If she can ride Lil' Smokey... she can ride anything!

BTW, Reese got out there too. She did one run by herself and called it quits. She says she will try again, but that was enough excitement for her. She hasn't been off the training wheels on her bike very long (see earlier post),so we were super proud of her trying!

That is #3 gone on the top... poor, poor(literally) tooth fairy. Let's just say, the tooth fairy didn't really think about how many teeth are in a child's mouth before shelling out $ for the first tooth.

...to take off the training wheels and RIDE! She hasn't wanted to take them off b/c she didn't think she could keep up with the big kids. But, she came back from a ride around the neighborhood and told Daddy she wanted them off.

...there she goes!!

Fast Forward about 20 minutes and here she is on the street starting and stopping at will, turning where ever she wants, and going as fast as she can- no problem! She made about 3 trips around the neighborhood before the night was over! Has to be the most painless bike lesson ever and we aren't too worried about her keeping up with the big kids!

Isn't she a beauty... Chris found this little diamond in the rough and picked it up for the girls! It's an old Yamaha PW 50, in Honda red! It needs a little work (can you tell), but he already got it running- starting on the first kick. Needs a new seat and we'll be in business.
To the neighbor's delight, he got it running about 10:30 last night... it's a loud little thing and likes to smoke, but it's gonna be fun for the girls! They are pumped but can't ride yet b/c their helmets are in Scott Co... oh well, next weekend!

The Running Cheetahs had there first game on Saturday, Reese scored 2 goals. She got the first goal of the game and played AWESOME!

The whole team ROCKS! Reese was the only one on the team who had played soccer before but they all did great.

Drew was cheerleader for the day, happy for lil' sis to do so well. Drew when are those teeth coming out?

This was her first day of Kindergarten... big sis walked in with us and she found her room, her teacher, and her cubby.
She had a great day... there were only 4 kids there and she was the only girl. She is really excited about starting regular schedule and can't wait until her next day. Highlight of the day was getting to wear her new "Reese's" shirt she is sooo proud of it and evidently it was a big hit... everyone loved it!!
